Prologue: The Underground

By: Whisper O' The Winds

    Aya sat dismally at an empty booth in The Underground, Babylon's most popular nightclub, nursing her sixth Babylon mix. The club's neon lights turned her pale blonde hair a strange greenish blue, and made her glazed eyes red.

    "Damn life." Said a rich voice.

    Aya looked up at a tall young woman of about her age, with dark hair, eyes and skin.

    "You look awful lonely," said the woman, taking hold of her hand and studying it. "did you come here alone?"

    Aya shurged her shoulders and gestured towards the dance floor, "Who are you?"

    "The name's Flare." replied the woman, "Care to dance?" before Aya could object, Flare drug her out of the booth and onto the dance floor.

~~~
    "Looks like Aya's got her self a partner." Siad Ian. With a flick of his wrist in Aya's direction, he sent a colorful serpent dragon twisting through the crowd, causing some unsuspecting dancers to exclaim in surprise.
    "Aya? Where?" siad Cleo looking around the dance floor, " Hey!" she yelped as Ian gave her violet hair a sharp yank, "What'd you do that for?"
    Ian tossed his head back and laughed, "You need to relax; Aya's a big girl she can take care of her self."
    Cleo frowned, "She only turned 17 last month."
    Ian drew Cleo close, his green eyes sparkled with marryment, "And how long have we been illegally getting her into this place?"
    "But she's a Dragon Chyld." Mumbled Cleo.
    "So." said Ian, leaning down kissed her deeply and halting anymore protest.
~~~

    The room spun maddly as Aya fought to keep her feet on the floor and the contents of her stomache in her stomache. Flare gathered her close, the darkskinned woman was only a few inches taller than her she realized.

    "What's your name pretty angel?" Asked Flare with a slight smile.

   Aya's strugled to keep conciousness, 'I'll never drink that many Babylon mixes again.' she thought, "Ay-Aya..." she managed to mumble before darkness closed in.

~~~
    The sunlight peirced through Aya's eyelids and seared painfuly into the farthest reaches of her brain.
    A hand petted her face gently, "You better lay off the Babylon mixes for a while, pretty angel."
    Aya's eyes flew open and she bolted upright in the bed, then leaned over the side and emptied her stomache into the conviently placed trash can.
    "I didn't mean to scare you, pretty angel." whispered Flare, gently rubbing Aya's back, "You were very drunk last night, and passed out. I could just leave you alone there, and I had no clue who your friends were or where they were so I brought you home with me."
    Aya floped back down onto the pillow with a pietous moan, she was sure that she had emptied her stomache of everything she'd ever eaten. She felt Flare pull the blankets up around her neck, "Thanks." she whispered
    Flare smiled, "No problem," she said, " you get some rest now, and I'll make something to get rid of that nasty hangover. Then when you're feeling better, we'll call your friends, and I'll take you home." She bent over and gave Aya a fluttering kiss on the cheek.
